ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
You must be aware that SITA (dump managers contracted to deal with Cornwall's waste by our county council), are proposing to extend the life of the United Down's landfill site by up to 2 years, and have offered the parishioners of St Day, Lanner, Gwennap and Carharrack, a bribe of £1,000,000 pounds if we accept the proposal.
The carbuncle on our doorstep is due to be closed in October 2010 and landscaped in subsequent years. However due to the inability of someone to predict that there would be a shortfall of rubbish going to build the Carharrack Mountain, we appear to have become victims of our own success in recycling.
Now we are to be asked to go against all that our parents taught us and accept a "gift from strangers", for another two years of stink, dust, traffic and stigma!
But there's a million on offer………. When? Where? How? Who for, What for?
The recycling facility has to close by Oct. 2010 no matter what. We wouldn't even be left with that facility and the litter spewing onto our lanes from overloaded trailers. Oh, and there's a little matter of SITA shareholders benefiting from the extra 16 million pound for building a mountain! We don't want pieces of silver. We want the dump to close as agreed.
We want dust free days, stink free years, and a landscaped mountain to climb.
You are urged to vote NO on the voting slip in the next Carharrack News and return it to the post office. Write to or phone SITA and your representatives, listed in the Carharrack News or on the website www.carharrack .com
Put a poster in your window and pride into your village.
