About Carharrack
How did Carharrack get its name?
There appear to be three possible answers.
The first is based upon "Car" referring to a building of a friendly nature: a meeting place for travellers possible relating to a property in Little Carharrack.
Another enmanated from "Caer" or "Car", meaning a camp, enclosure or fort in Cornish and "harrack", a corruption of a personal name Harthoc. Together, it could mean "Harthoc's camp" or "Harthoc's fort".
The last derivative assumes the meaning of "Harrack" as a rock. Thus the meaning of "settlement near the rock".
