ONE CORNWALL
Proposed Ward Boundary Changes
Carharrack Parish Council will be responding to Cornwall County Council - Electoral Review Working Party and the Boundary Commissioner regarding the proposed changes that might affect Carharrack. The responses will be posted on this website as soon as possible.
In the meantime it is highly unlikely that any changes will affect either the Mineral Tramways project or Mining Villages Regeneration as these projects already cross ward boundaries.
At this stage although the initial consultation period is short we will submit in good time and whatever is proposed must take into consideration the needs and desires of parishioners.
Update 17/04/08
The parish council held an extraordinary meeting on Monday April 14th 2008 to draft its response to the proposed boundary changes, which are part of the One Cornwall programme. This parish council decided unanimously that it wanted to remain as part of the present ward of Lanner, St Day and Carharrack thus retaining the common identities, resources, services and heritage that all parishioners have come to expect and respect - no alternative was given.
The parish council will now respond to the One Cornwall team but will also discuss with the Boundary Commission certain matters relating to the lack of consultation and poor management of the process.

Update 22/04/08
Many people in Carharrack and I would assume, neighbouring parishes, are concerned about the proposed re-working of parishes and wards. As the county moves towards becoming a unified authority - namely one council, as opposed to six district and one county council, there has to be a rethink regarding councillors and representation of constituents views, concerns etc. Cornwall Council has now submitted its proposals to the Boundary Committee - the deadline being the end of the working day, April 21st 2008. This may look as if that is the end of the matter but if you have not made your views known there is to be a further round of consultation with parishioners and constituents during the summer.
The parish council discussed this in depth again last night at the April meeting - we have already made our own representation to Cornwall County Council and the Boundary Committee. As a council we have decided upon the following action-
1. To wait until we have access to the county submission - this has been called for and we expect documentation shortly.
2. To post the document(s) on this website and also to make paper copies available.
3. To provide details of who to correspond to both by letter and by email
4. To provide information and a draft letter in the next parish magazine - the aim is for parishioners to use the draft letter to compose their own or just sign and send the draft.
5. To display information posters in the village.
We do have plenty of time to make our responses and the Boundary Committee will release draft papers for our consideration. As soon as these are available we will also copy them to this website. In the meantime if you have ideas of your own to support our work please do not hesitate to contact me or talk to a parish councillor.
More information to follow.
